    Robotic Bedside Manner

    May 13, 2019

Ernest Quintana was admitted to the Kaiser Permanente hospital in Fremont, California with breathing difficulties.

He also was hard of hearing in his right ear but the robotic machine that allowed a doctor many miles away to deliver his prognosis could only reach the right side of the bed due to the design of the room. Therefore his granddaughter had to repeat everything that the machine said which was that he would be put on a morphine drip until he died as there was nothing else that they could do for him.

    He died two days later.

Whilst robots may be more objective than humans in diagnosing issues they probably arent best placed to deliver news of this magnitude.

So, still a role for humans in the health service!
