The Mohawk is a new ski helmet inspired by Israeli fighter pilot equipment and developed by Israeli tech firm Ride On has revolutionised behaviour on ski slopes and not in a good way.
Using augmented reality to show skiers their speed, altitude, heart rate, temperature and distance and facilitating playing of music and allowing phone calls as well as offering sat nav directions the helmet has gamified skiing. The result is that skiing injuries have increased. In France there were 144,050 ski injuries last year up from 131,409 the previous year.
The other technology that has added to speed is the design of the skis themselves. Modern carving skis can further increase confidence without the requisite skill.
Not all progress is positive!
