Scrap The Sick Note
Adrian Massey's new book which is called Sick Note Britain:How Social Problems Became Medical Issues. Massey is speaking from experience as a doctor himself when he estimates that 8m GP appointments every year are for the sole purpose of obtaining a sick note. Given that an average appointment lasts 9 minutes and 22 seconds and no-one is ever refused one regardless of how disbelieving the GP is, you can do the maths to see what a huge waste of time and resource this is!
Last week the NHS said that they would pay 22,000 new staff including pharmacists who patients can see instead of GP's.
Why not save the money and just ban the sick note?
